The scale and complexity of the work we are doing is growing. I'd been watching the harvests from previous gatherings and really resonating with some of the enquiry questions, especially the ones about working with power systems in these often entrenched times. I had been asking myself ‘How do I experience and understand power? What’s my practice and what are my blind spots?’ The more we can see and understand this, the more we are able to engage with our eyes wide open. Then I’ve been fascinated with the the challenge of what it takes to sustain things over time and at scale. And depth: what might happen if we could sink below the surface into the heart and body of what really matters, letting go of what we think we know and being with what we don’t?...Then coming up for a beer and a laugh with friends! These are some of the questions I’ll be bringing. What will you bring?
Margaret Wheatley, who started me on this whole journey, speaks about how systems of influence build. She talks about a critical tipping point when existing networks connect and build together. I believe that this is a possibility that we are calling in with BtB Europe. I’ve been at many European gatherings associated with the Art of Hosting and got so much out of every one. Many of the connections and friendships I’ve made will last me for life. Much of the learning I’ve been able to channel straight back into my work, but most importantly the gatherings remind me that we are not alone, that we’re part of an amazing, connected web of people and nature.
Imagine a meeting of 28 countries (and more), a mirror secret European Parliament if you will, of change agents, activists, hosts, system designers, energy workers, nomads, participative leaders, graphic harvesters, facilitators space holders and social entrepreneurs all coming together on one little island for three days to tell stories, eat, drink, dance and dive into learning together.
Europe seems to be at a critical point right now (like much of the world) with much disturbance and hardship, but also massive inspiration and newness coming through. What if we got together across this vast diverse field of practitioners to share what we know, be in the not-knowing together and engage with some great people and models?
It’s going to have a lot of life about it. If you feel this is for you then get in touch, sign up.....see you there !
