This AoH Beyond the Basics is an offering to ourselves as well as to others. As a group of hosts who are friends, we love what happens when we show up into a room together doing work or offering training. Our personal friendships give us the permission to be honest and provocative with each other about our work and how we turn up in the world. Friendship is a strategic pillar of change not just in our work with others but in how we work together as a team. Our hope is that folks will join us who want to be with us in a space of friendship and learning.
At the same time, the four of us continue to get asked into work that pushes our own edges and makes us articulate the next level of what we’re learning ...
In reading our invitation, some could be a bit intimidated. They might think: I’m just doing work here in my corner of the word - is that audacious enough? I’m an introvert and all this talk of friendship sounds stressful! I’m not sure I’m ready for the first level of training let alone the next level - what will I be getting myself into?
Our intent is not to set a bar too high for most to reach, but to share with you our own aspirations related to these gathering. We’re not inviting an exclusive club of people. We have no set list of tasks or trainings for you to have completed and no level of work you must have attained.
This means, on a practical note, you do NOT have to have attended a previous Art of Hosting. It would be super helpful if you had some experience with hosting or facilitation as we won’t be reviewing methodology “how-to’s”. However, if you’re working with groups on strategic initiatives or have an interest bringing folks together to get work done, please join us. We hope to have seasoned hosts as well as those who will broaden all of our learning by bringing in differing perspectives and levels of experience.
We also want to be clear for those who have participated in an AoH, this will not be a review session (as great as that might be!). Nope, we’re doing all new stuff here, friends. You may have experienced the methodologies before - we’ll absolutely be using circle, cafe, open space - but the teaches will be different, the conversations both broader into larger systems as well as deeper into your own leadership experiences in a way that we’ve never hosted before.
For us, the bottom line is...do you want to come? Can you be in friendship and learning about things that matter to you? Are you daunted yet full of anticipation for what lies ahead in your work? Are you ready to take your work to the next level...whatever that may be?
If so, our fervent hope is you’ll join us. You are invited, and you are welcome.
